January in 5 Songs

“Let’s Go Fly A Kite” from Mary Poppins

By far one of the best things we’ve done here in Dubai is attend the International Kite Festival that took place at the end of the month. It was a perfect day to be on the beach, as late January usually is šŸ˜‰ , and we had the most relaxing and fun time. I’ll never forget the sights of such amazing kites in the sky!

“You Don’t Own Me” from The First Wives Club

One day when Micah was napping, I had a hankering to stroll down memory lane and watch a good movie. After much deliberation between my personal classics like “Fools Rush In,” “Ever After,” and “The Wedding Planner,” I decided on “The First Wives Club.” This movie is perfection! I laughed so much, and, for the first time ever, I actually cried at the end. Usually at the end I’m so happy because Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn, and Diane Keaton find their strength and singĀ this amazing “girl power” song… but this time I cried because it made me realize how much I missed that camaraderie with my friends back home, especially my sisters. So many of our good times were made laughing together watching these movies.

I remember years ago when we went to Disney’s California Adventure we saw Diane Keaton there, and we had to approach her and tell her how much we loved the “Father of the Bride” movies and “First Wives Club.” We admitted to her that they were classics in our home. She just rolled her eyes and said, “Oh God.” LOL Yes, these movies aren’t Oscar winners or particularly artsy or introspective, but the memories they hold for me make me want to watch them again and again because they take me back to very happy times in my life.

“I’ll Be There For You” by The Rembrandts

Thanks to Netflix, Anthony & I areĀ binge-watching “Friends” when Micah goes to sleep. On January 1 this year, the entire “Friends” series was releasedĀ to stream on Netflix. Anthony and I are now done with the first THREE seasons.Ā Ā At this rate, we’ll squeeze 10 years of shows into just under 4 months of TV watching. LOL

I didn’t like the show when it was on TV, and sometimes it still annoys me, but for the most part, it’s funny. I’m not going to go into the reasons why this show irritates me, but I will say that I love Monica!

“Isn’t She Lovely” by Stevie Wonder

I am the proud auntie of four spectacular nieces and nephews:Ā Jacen, Zachary, Allison, and Luna. On January 24th, we were blessed with our first Aguilar niece, Rilee Yong Aguilar. ā¤ She was 8 pounds, 8 ounces and just over 20 inches long. We won’t be able to meet her until May when we go home, so all we have right now are Skype sessions to see her. We’re so happy for Anthony’s brother Rick and his wife Jenny, and can’t wait to watch this little beauty grow up. Isn’t she lovely?
